Robyn Broughton is the new Director of Netball at Hertfordshire MavericksNew Zealand icon Robyn Broughton has made the step up to Director of Netball at Hertfordshire Mavericks as well as assuming the role of head coach following the departure of Sam Bird.

Broughton, who coached the Southern Sting from 1998 during the National Bank Cup era, winning seven titles in ten years, spent last season as assistant coach with the side and will now take up her new position at the start of next month.

She also brings national experience to the squad after having coached the Silver Ferns to Fastnet victory in England in 2010.

"I am grateful to Mavericks for selecting me for this new role and after having experience of the supportive environment in the franchise last year, I am now keen to continue this involvement," said Broughton. "There is a pool of talented players and I am confident we can work towards success in the Superleague."

Franchise Director, Gloria Keech is delighted with the appointment, saying: "Robyn is a natural and experienced leader. She has coached at the highest level with huge success and worked with many elite athletes nurturing their talent and helping them to fulfil their potential. At Mavericks we have always focused on talent development so Robyn is the perfect fit in all ways.

"I am excited that Robyn has agreed to join Mavericks as our first Director of Netball and I'm certain she will enable the club to make a real impact in a very competitive Vitality Netball Superleague."
