• August 19th - The London mayor Sadiq Khan says he is really excited about the start of the Night Tube which begins this evening. Services will run throughout the night on the Victoria and Central Lines on Fridays and Saturdays.

• August 17th - Sadiq Khan has been in City Hall for 100 days as Mayor of London and says he is proud of work done so far.

 

• August 14th - Sadiq Khan has repeated his desire to see Transport for London take over operation of Southern rail.

  In a letter to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, the Mayor of London criticised the "appalling" level of service by Southern, and said passengers "should not have to suffer any longer".

   

• August 10th - Sadiq Khan has called for the government to delay the process of leaving the leaving the European Union until late 2017, allowing Brexit negotiators time to “square the circle” of ending freedom of movement into Britain, while retaining access to the single market. 

  Waiting to trigger Article 50 – the mechanism to begin withdrawal from the bloc – until after the German and French elections next year, he said, would give new leaders a chance for “latitude” over the terms of the UK’s departure from the union.

   

• August 4th - Mayor of London statement in response to incident at Russell Square
  

  “The safety of all Londoners is my number one priority and my heart goes out to the victims of the incident in Russell Square and their loved ones.

  "I have spoken with the Commissioner, and the Assistant Commissioner, who have assured me that our police officers are working extremely hard to investigate exactly what has happened and to keep the rest of us safe. A man was arrested at the scene. Police have spoken to him and are seeking to establish the full facts including motives for this attack.

  "I urge all Londoners to remain calm and vigilant. Please report anything suspicious to the police‎. We all have a vital role to play as eyes and ears for our police and security services and in helping to ensure London is protected.

  "Our police officers are doing an incredibly difficult job on our behalf and they have my full support."

   

• July 26th - Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launches London Finance Commission 2 in his latest push for devolution
  It proposed devolving the full suite of property tax revenues streams - including council tax, stamp duty land tax and business rates – giving London the ability to invest in its own infrastructure and promote economic growth.
  “London would not take more of the nation's resources, but use the existing tax and spending better. The mayor and the boroughs know better than Whitehall how to run responsive and effective public services.

   

• July 26th - Sadiq Khan makes progress on green pledges despite missing solar strategy
  

  If successful, ‘Licence Lite’ as it is known could be granted by September and will allow the mayor’s office to buy energy from a generator panel including five London boroughs, social housing provider Peabody and energy companies Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) and Vital Energy to be sold on to the public sector.

  The scheme will first look to provide clean energy to Transport for London before expanding to other public sector organisations like the Metropolitan Police and the NHS, followed by the private sector.

  The entire package of work is predicted to help London generate more of its energy in a cleaner way and create over £300 million of investment by 2021.

   

• July 26th - Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announces two dedicated police constables for every Havering ward by end of 2017
  

  Mr Khan made the announcement on Thursday that each of London’s 629 wards will have two dedicated PCs and a police community support officer by the end of next year.

  He said: “As mayor, the safety and security of all Londoners is my first priority and this starts with real neighbourhood policing.

  “Our local officers should be known both to the community and by the community. Their local knowledge helps to prevent and detect crime, and they are the local eyes and ears of our security services.

  “They are essential to improving trust and confidence in our police and keeping our communities safe.”

   

• July 20th - Sadiq Khan and the battle against bad landlords
  Sadiq Khan became London mayor in May pledging to improve London’s burgeoning private rented sector (PRS). His manifesto says he’ll set up a London-wide, not-for-profit lettings agency for the benefit of good landlords and tenants alike, make it easier for boroughs to bring in landlord licensing schemes and name and shame bad landlords online. It also promises he’ll “fight for the mayor and London councils to have a greater say in strengthening renters’ rights over tenancy lengths, rent rises and the quality of accommodation”.
