Danny Drinkwater charged by FA over elbow incident with Watford's Valon Behrami video footage

Danny Drinkwater has been given a three month match ban following violent conduct by the Football Association after appearing to elbow Watford’s Valon Behrami, leaving the Leicester City midfielder with a three-match suspension.

The FA has examined the footage of the incident, which took place in the 67th minute of Leicester’s 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Neil Swarbrick, the referee, took no action at the time and it was not until the following day that the FA became aware of videos circulating on social media.

Referee Neil Swarbrick took no action during the game but the FA, having been alerted to the footage after it ran on social media on Sunday, may act once they discover if the official saw the incident.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri remained unconcerned over the incident, ahead of the Foxes' Champions League game with Club Brugge on Tuesday.

He said: "I don't like to speak now about this speculation. I saw the referee was very close to the incident, he doesn't whistle or take any consequences, then I think it's OK."
