Eastenders star Dame Barbara Windsor is celebrity who switched on Elstree and Borehamwood Christmas lights

To mark the festive season Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council brought some festive cheer to the town with the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

 

Barbara Ann Deeks, Born in Shoreditch, London, on 6 August 1937.

 

On Sunday at All Saints Church in Shenley Road, Dame Barbara Windsor had the honour of switching on the lights at 4.30pm. She wished everyone a Happy Christmas and Happy New Year.

 

Dame Barbara Windsor DBE is an English actress, known for her appearances in the Carry On films and for playing Peggy Mitchell in the BBC One soap opera EastEnders.

 

EastEnders favourite Barbara Windsor is still full of surprises – even as she approaches her 80th birthday.

 

Barbara would like Elton John to play on her big day next year as for his 60th birthday she leapt out of a cake, dressed as a pink fairy.

 

The actress is a national treasure having played feisty Enders’ landlady Peggy Mitchell from 1994 until earlier this year.

 

Hundreds of fans turned to see their favourite Eastenders star switch on the lights, and many got a chance to do selfies with the cockney celebrity.

There was also free entertainment including an ice rink, a vintage carousel, Santa's grotto and a carol concert.

 

Borehamwood Brass Band played Christmas carols which made gave a nice Christmas feel.

Others enjoyed the Snow pouring down at Santa's grotto bus.
